Choosing Between a Framed Portrait, Head & Paws, and a Full-Body Figurine

The best format is not always the biggest or most detailed option. It is the one that fits the photographs you have, the characteristics you most want to remember, and the place where the finished piece will live.
Framed head portrait: focus on the face
A head-focused portrait puts the eyes, muzzle, ears and facial markings first. It can work well when the strongest references are close-ups and when the finished piece needs to sit neatly on a wall or shelf. It asks less from the body reference photos, but clear facial detail still matters.
Head and paws: a little more gesture
Adding paws creates the feeling of a pet leaning into the frame. This format can show chest color, leg markings and a familiar resting gesture without requiring a complete three-dimensional body. Front and three-quarter photos are particularly helpful.
Full-body figurine: proportion from every side
A figurine can preserve stance, tail shape and the relationship between the head and body. It also needs the most complete photo set. If one side, the legs or the tail is never visible, those missing areas must be reconstructed with your guidance.
Questions that make the choice easier
- Are the clearest photos mostly close-ups or full-body views?
- Is expression, a familiar pose or a distinctive marking most important?
- Will the piece hang on a wall, sit on a shelf or be viewed from all sides?
- How much depth and display space is available?
- Are any key angles missing?
There is no universal “best” format. A focused framed portrait made from strong photos can carry more likeness than a full-body piece built from weak or incomplete references. We prefer to recommend the format the available evidence can support.
